Yoga retreats are for anyone seeking rest, relaxation and a new adventure in an awe-inspiring location. These unique, transformative experiences are where like-minded people come together to completely recharge their mind, body and soul. Retreats aren’t only for experienced yogis; they’re also perfect for those who want to experience something new and are interested in taking up yoga and meditation.
I love going on yoga retreats as they offer the ideal opportunity for me to switch off, unwind and get some clarity and perspective on life. Retreats also give you the time and space to come up with new ideas as well as encouraging you to reassess your life goals. They’re also a great place to meet others who truly inspire you. For me, yoga retreats helped give me the focus and inspiration for my brand, Infinity Yoga Clothing. The vision and ethos of the IYC brand were born from the headspace I gained on a yoga retreat, which has been a huge turning point in my life.
So, what are some of the other big benefits of going on a yoga retreat? Let’s explore…!
- Take your practice up a level
If you’re looking to take your yoga practice to the next level, or if you’re new to yoga and meditation, then yoga retreats are perfect for you. For those who are new to the practice, you’ll learn so much and, for more experienced yogis, you’ll definitely notice the difference it makes to your yoga! With a couple of classes per day, you’ll focus, hone your practice and progress quickly.
- Focused practice and meditation
When we’re in the throes of everyday life, our priorities tend to be on juggling work, family, friends and chores. When on a yoga retreat, we get uninterrupted time to fully focus on our yoga practice and meditation. Sounds perfect, doesn’t it?
- Detox your body and mind
Yoga retreats offer the ideal opportunity for you to detox in all senses, enabling you to find balance and reinvigorate your body and mind. You’ll refresh your body from the inside out by eating delicious freshly cooked (and grown!) food whilst also reviving your mind through the powers of mindfulness and meditation.
- Learn and grow
The journey is all about growth, laughter and learning from experiences, without judgement. Yoga retreats offer a way of learning more about ourselves, as well as finding a way to naturally unwind from stress by focusing on being present in the moment
- Make lifelong friends
Retreats are a great way of meeting new people with similar interests – healthy living, mindfulness, travel, adventure and, of course, yoga! I’ve made some lifelong friendships this way, some of whom are now also ambassadors for my company, Infinity Yoga Clothing. I went to my first retreat alone and I was nervous that I didn’t know anyone, but I needn’t have worried. Everyone is so friendly and they all want to make friends, so you won’t be alone.
- Switch off from technology
It’s all about switching off to ‘switch off’! I love the way that yoga retreats encourage you to unplug from technology and disconnect from the digital world. We can become slaves to our smartphones so sometimes it’s healthy to have a digital detox and just enjoy what’s right in front of us.
- Explore and enjoy the adventure
You can get inspiration and choose from so many different exotic locations around the world, from remote islands to popular tourist destinations. A retreat offers the opportunity for you to enjoy a healthy holiday full of new experiences to try and cultures to learn about. There’s always plenty of time to go and explore your location.
- A new perspective
Having some time away doing something new and unknown can help us gain some perspective, whilst also giving us time out to reconsider what we want from life. You may start to see yourself in a new light, especially if it’s your first ever yoga retreat and you’ve gone on your own. For me, I gained the space I needed to reflect on my career goals and aspirations.
- Bid farewell to bad habits
A retreat can be the ideal catalyst for positive change, especially as you’ll be out of your normal routine and living a truly healthy lifestyle. The retreat experience can help you become more conscious of your behaviours and motivate you to be your best self, encouraging you to replace any negative habits with new, healthy ones.
- Renewed appreciation
Whilst a week away in an exotic location is always incredible, you’re likely to return with a new appreciation for the people in your life and the place you call home. There’s no doubt you’ll go home feeling healthy, happy and ready to face the future.
